Battlefield Band - Out for the Night
Released in 2004, this is the second Battlefield Band album featuring the talents of Mike Katz, Alan Reid, Alasdair White and Pat Kilbride.
Irishman Pat was an old hand - a member of Battlefield Band in the '70s who appeared on their 'At The Front' album - and he slotted straight back in like he hadn't been away. The songs on this album are strong, as always, but the tunes take the prize: Alasdair's West coast fiddle style immediately locked in with Katz's pipes, weaving and dancing, forging a duo which formed a melodic backbone of the band for over a decade. The pair built on the rock solid base of Alan's keys and Pat's skipping, driving guitar, and the resulting album was one of the strongest yet.
"it's a recording to both celebrate and cherish, mixing traditional instrumentation and celtic melodies with a pin-sharp contemporary feel"
HMV CHOICE March/April 2004
"...It's now 30 years since the Batties spearheaded the Scottish music revival... ...the passage of time has done nothing to dim the Battlefield sparkle"
BBC Radio 2 Folk & Acoustic
"...the revival continues as young fiddle lion Alasdair White beds down, bringing such zest to the instrumentals in a doughty framework that's made the band such a bedrock of Scottish music for over three decades.."
Colin Irwin, MOJO
